K. Renee's Uniform Closet has been a forerunner in the school uniform industry in Oklahoma for over 21 years. The company was co-founded in 1987 by Karen Renee and Darla Graves. Karen is a designer/seamstress and mother of five grown children, all of whom spent their Tulsa school days in uniform. Her mother, Darla, is a long time business entrepreneur and Certified Public Accountant.

Before the mid-1980s, there were no stores in Tulsa that sold strictly school uniforms. Karen had gained experience in the industry by working for a large Houston-based school uniform retailer. Originally, she worked out of her home to process shipments from Houston.

By the time the Houston company opened a retail store in Tulsa, Karen had developed the idea of recycling school uniforms. The concept was simple: seeing the sturdiness and quality of school uniform clothing, and how often it was handed down in families, wouldn't it make sense to recycle used uniforms and make them available for a fraction of retail?

The Houston company wasn't interested in adding recycling to their retail operations, however, so with Karen's innate design sense and uniform expertise coupled with Darla's entrepreneurial resources, the pair established Uniform Services Unlimited. The new company sold imprinted athletic wear and consignment school uniforms. The original small store at 32nd and Harvard soon moved to the Highland Plaza Shopping Center near 41st and Hudson. The new location brought a new look and a new name: K. Renee & Company.

Many changes came about during this period. Greater demand saw the addition of new uniform items to the resale inventory. The old time- consuming practice of consignment was replaced with a direct buyback program. After a few years, K. Renee & Company was bursting at the seams in its small retail space.

By January 2001, the company doubled its square footage by moving into another part of the Highland Plaza Center. Again, the move prompted a small name change, from K. Renee & Company to K. Renee's Uniform Closet, to emphasize the company's specialty. With the expanded location also came the addition of new medical wear to the regular fare of school uniforms, as well as group sales of screen printed and embroidered career, culinary, athletic, and other uniforms.

During 2006, when Tulsa Public Schools made school uniforms mandatory for its middle schools, K. Renee's Uniform Closet expanded once again by leasing the adjacent space. With the explosive growth in 2006 and since, the company has once again established itself as the biggest and best in the Tulsa metro area. All this, while maintaining an excellent value for your family's budget.
